Youth from all over the world who collaborate with Redemptorists have a lot in common; love for the Redeemer, mission enthusiasm, compassion for the needy and simplicity in communication. Therefore, Redemptorist Youth Congresses are held every three years.
The first Congress took place in Pagani (Italy, 1987) on the occasion of the bicentenary of the death of St Alphonsus, founder of the Redemptorists.
In El Espino (Spain, 1988) young people reflected on common mission with the Redemptorists.
In Eggenburg (Austria, 1991) it was decided that congresses would take place every three years.
In Durham (England, 1994) the youth felt unity with the Anglican Church therefore, this congress was known as an “Ecumenical Pilgrimage”.
The 5th Youth Congress under the theme “Come and See” took place in Essen (Belgium, 1998).
In Torun (Poland, 2001) the youth built bridges of friendship between people, nations and cultures.
The next Congress was held in Bonn (Germany, 2004) under the theme “This way”.
